Sorry I didn’t post yesterday. Due to being sick as a dog and completely exhausted, I decided to take a break and head to bed early. Plus, nothing interesting happened. Well...except I saw this:

I actually liked it a lot more than I thought I would! I love Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow - he makes me laugh! But overall, if you love pirates (like me), go and see it to experience a whole new twist to the series.
As for today...
Today was a crazy busy day, but those are the best kinds! My time here in Paris is winding down, so I’m trying to see all of the things I want to see before I leave. I can’t believe I’ve already been here for three weeks! Dr. Hudson has been in France since Tuesday and Dr. Olivier leaves tomorrow. We also have our first big excursion next weekend - Normandy! I’m so excited I can hardly see straight!
Today I woke up at 4:15am.
A group of us wanted to go and see the sunrise at Sacré Coeur, so we had to be up early to catch the 5:13am train into Paris. The sun was supposed to rise at 6:03am, so we had to hurry! All of the Croissy peeps met and headed into town together. We had to switch trains at Chatelet to line 4 and then take that to Anvers. We caught the first train of the day and then ran to the funicular (the tram that takes you to the top of Montmartre so that you don’t have to climb the stairs), to find it not working yet. That meant that we had to climb the BAJILLION flights of stairs to make it to the top of the hill in time. We had 5 minutes to do it. A few of us ran up the stairs for a while, but ended up walking. We made it to the top just in time!
Only to find out that the church faces west.
We were slightly upset with our epic fail, but made the most of it. I got some decent pictures of the church and the city with the morning light. It was interesting to see the city without people too. Paris doesn’t really wake up until 9:00am, so no one was around! We were also up before the trash crew could come and clean up the mess all over the stairs at Sacré Coeur, so there was garbage EVERYWHERE!
After some pictures, we decided to head back home and get some more sleep. We got back at around 8:00am and I set my alarm to wake up at 10:00am...but slept until almost noon. The more I slept, the less congested I felt so it was great! Amy and I went downstairs at 12:15pm to go the grocery store to get lunch before heading back into Paris. We ran into Madame before leaving and told her what we’d done that morning. She laughed at us.
Lunch was a mini baguette, Boursin cheese (MY FAVE), applesauce, an apple, and Prince cookies. And all for less than 3 Euros! It was a wonderful choice. We met the boys at the station after we ate to head downtown and go to the catacombs. It was SO COOL!!!! There are 6 million people’s bones down there and it’s absolutely incredible. Dark? Yes. Wet? Yes. Anatomy nerd paradise? Most definitely.
"Stop! It's here, the empire of the dead" Ominous, no?
Look at those beautiful bones!
After the catacombs, we all split up to do different things. The boys went back to the French Open, Kara went to meet Casi at Notre Dame, and the rest of us went to the Louvre. That building is INCREDIBLE. They say that you can spend a month straight in the Louvre and not see everything. It’s so true! It took us an hour to go through one wing!

Unfortunately, Amy and I had to leave early to come home after an hour and a half at the museum. We had to be back to make dinner for our host parents! Well...we THOUGHT we were making them dinner. We came home ready to make them pancakes (we wanted to give them something American), but Madame just couldn’t understand that you can have pancakes for dinner. She insisted that they were for dessert and the she was making dinner! It was all very confusing...and Amy and I felt like idiots, but everything turned out fine. She made us a salad, squash (not a fan) and potatoes, muscles (first time I’d had them), fish, and then we made mini pancakes with strawberries for dessert. They were delish! I missed the smell of pancakes cooking on the stove. Actually, I miss breakfast for dinner in general. It was really fun and Amy took a picture of all of us around the table.

It was a busy day, but a great one! This was my last full week in Paris (we have all of our excursions from now on) and I can hardly believe it. Before you know it, I’ll be back in the states! Tomorrow is flea market day/Opera house day/apparently the end of the world (?), so hopefully I’ll have some good stuff to write about tomorrow. Until then! Bonne nuit!
Oh, and the videos are of a surprise visitor in the Metro on the way to the catacombs (they’re kind of common), and part of my adventures in the catacombs. Enjoy! J
