Le badminton

The weather in Paris today was beautiful. I noticed how gorgeous the sun was with the wind blowing perfectly as I walked to church. It’s the most amazing time of year to be in Paris!

Church today was lovely, as always. It’s Mother’s Day in France, so the Primary children sang to their moms in French. It was SO CUTE! J Amy and I left a cute card for our host mom this morning too. Hopefully she liked it! Anyways, the lessons at church were also interesting. In Sunday school, we talked about dating and it was fun to hear people’s perspectives about it here in France. Sacrament meeting was interesting too because one of the speakers was American and had his talk translated by the bishop. I tried to translate along with him in my head and I didn’t do that bad of a job! It’s amazing how much easier it is to learn a language when you’re surrounded by it all the time.

After church, Amy and I came home and had lunch. Kind of. All I have left is yogurt and applesauce, so that’s what I ate. I’m getting excited to come home and have a schedule/real (not unhealthy) food to eat! I can’t believe I’ll be back in the states in 18 days! After lunch, it was definitely nap time. I swear...if alarm clocks didn’t exist I could probably sleep forever.

When I woke up, Madame insisted that Amy and I check out the big festival that was going on in town today. It was a celebration of the impressionist painters and it was so fun! There were people dressed in “Belle Époque” costumes (late 1800s) and there was old-fashioned music playing along the Seine. It was like stepping back in time! They also had churros and “barbe de papa” (cotton candy) for sale. I wanted a churro SO BAD but it’s Sunday, so that wasn’t an option. L I loved every second of the festival though! Here are some pictures and a video of the band that was playing:

There were ferry rides on the Seine

I couldn't resist taking a picture of "French Bud"! The owner looked at me funny when I did

After the festival, we headed home to see what Madame left for dinner. She went into the city for a play and dinner, so she left us stuff on the table. Amy and I got distracted in our rooms and lost track of time, when Monsieur came upstairs and invited us to eat dinner with him and the rest of the family. It was so much fun!!!! Our host brothers, Pierre and Hugo, were here along with Peggy (Pierre’s wife) and their son Antoine. He’s one and fell asleep before we could see him. Peggy invited us to play badminton and we played for an hour! Peggy and I were on a team and played against Hugo and Amy. After 6 matches, Peggy and I only won 2/6. BUT she was injured and it was always close! They’re a very competitive family, so I fit right in. J I laughed so much...Hugo tried to cheat and Peggy hates losing so we’d quarrel and argue over if the birdie was in or out all the time. Poor Monsieur kept re-heating dinner over and over again because we wanted rematches. But after many games and lots of teasing, we all sat down at the table in the back yard and ate. Monsieur made an amazing salad, sausages of some kind (that were amazing!), rice, cherries, and of course bread with cheese. We talked about America and France and countries that we liked and didn’t like. It was really good conversation! I’m seriously so blessed...I have the best host family in the world!

Well it’s late and I have to be at the Institute building at 10:00am tomorrow, so off to bed I go. Bonne nuit à tous!
